Marshall’s Chasen Hines Commits to LSU
The first of East Texas' "big three" in the 2018 recruiting class has offered up his commitment.
Marshall junior offensive lineman Chasen Hines has committed to LSU, he announced on Twitter, Sunday afternoon.
Hines (6-3, 340) chose LSU, where he visited this weekend, over 14 other schools, including Baylor, Oklahoma, Oregon, TCU, Texas, and Texas A&M.
Hines is third among East Texans in the '18 class with 15 offers, trailing only Arp's DeMarvion Overshown and Carthage's Keaontay Ingram.
The Mavs' interior lineman joined John Tyler linebacker Tre Allison (SMU) as the only East Texans in the current recruiting cycle to commit.
Hines helped Marshall’s offense to 3,939 total yards in an 11-game 2016 season. As a sophomore, he was part of an offense that put up 5,401 total yards and drove the team to a third-round appearance in the Class 5A Division I state playoffs.
Marshall will be under new leadership in 2017 after head coach Clint Harper left to become the athletic director for Duncanville ISD last month after four years on the job. The Mavs have yet to hire Harper’s replacement.
LSU has been one of college football's most consistent programs for the last two decades. Since 2000, the Tigers have compiled a record 168-52 (.764) with national championships in 2003 and 2007.
The Tigers were 9-4 in 2016, defeating Heisman Trophy winning quarterback Lamar Jackson and Louisville in the Citrus Bowl. LSU then removed the interim tag from Ed Orgeron, who took over after Les Miles was dismissed during the season.
Hines, like all college football prospects currently in their junior year of high school, will become eligible to sign with any school that offers him in February.
