Minnesota Offers Newton’s Tamauzia Brown

One of the top-ranked recruits in all of Texas and a recent state champion picked up his East Texas-leading 14th Division I FBS scholarship offer on Monday.

Newton 2019 two-way standout Tamauzia Brown (6-1, 170) reported via Twitter late Monday night of an offer from Minnesota.

In addition to Minnesota, Brown has offers from Arkansas, Arkansas State, Baylor, Houston, Louisiana Tech, Missouri, Oklahoma State, San Diego State, Southern Miss, SMU, TCU, Texas Tech, and UTSA.

Minnesota also reached out to Jefferson 2019 WR T.Q. Jackson on Sunday.

Brown, who is a four-star recruit and ranked 30th overall in the state of Texas by 247sports.com, is one of five Newton players with scholarship offers.

The defending Class 3A Division II state champs also have 2019 RB Darwin Barlow, 2019 QB/ATH Josh Foster, 2019 Caiden Walker, and 2020 DE James Sylvester who have FBS opportunities.

Brown was instrumental in Newton's undefeated run in 2017. He starred on both sides of the ball, totaling 1,432 yards of offense and 18 touchdowns as a receiver. Brown also finished with an area-best 12 interceptions on defense.

Minnesota is a member of the Big Ten Conference. The Golden Gophers were 5-7 in 2017, the first season under head coach P.J. Fleck.

Brown, like all juniors, is first eligible to sign with any team that offers him beginning in December of 2018.
