
No. 10 Hughes Springs Notches Third Consecutive Shutout in 54-0 Rout at DeKalb
DeKALB -- Hughes Springs' rushing attack continued its punishing roll, while the defense kept a third consecutive opponent off the scoreboard in Friday night's 54-0 blowout of DeKalb.
The 10th-ranked Mustangs (9-0, 6-0), who have already clinched a playoff spot, host undefeated Waskom (9-0, 6-0) on Friday in a huge matchup for the District 9-2A Division II championship.
Hughes Springs has outscored its last three foes -- Linden-Kildare, Elysian Fields, and DeKalb -- 162-0.
Michael Martinez ran 10 times for 116 yards and a touchdown Friday night, while Chris Royal finished with 11 carries for 68 yards and two touchdowns. Kane Sampson aded 93 yards and a touchdown on only four carries. Fredrick Hopkins and Chad McKinney each added a rushing score.
Hughes Springs amassed 388 yards on 46 rushes to finish with 451 total yards. Austin Calcote caught two passes for 52 yards.
