A pair of Lufkin senior athletes picked up Division I scholarship offers on Wednesday.

Northwestern State offered both Malik Jackson and Isaiah Phillips, the duo announced via Twitter.

The Demons became the first Division I team to offer Phillips, while Jackson added Northwestern State to an offer list that also includes FBS opportunities from Arkansas State, Houston, Texas State, and Tulane.

Phillips was the most consistent player on the Lufkin offense in 2017. The running back finished the year with 1,972 yards and 27 touchdowns in helping the Panthers to an 11-3 season that ended in the Class 6A Division II Region II finals.

Jackson led Lufkin in receiving with 64 catches for 835 yards and eight touchdowns.

Northwestern State is an FCS program that competes in the Southland Conference. The Demons are coached by Brad Laird, who was just hired to replace Jay Thomas, who was the head coach the previous six seasons.

The Demons finished 2017 with a 4-7 overall record.

Jackson and Phillips, like all seniors, can sign with any program that offers them on Feb. 7, 2018.
