Pleasant Grove Hands Gilmer First Shutout Loss Since 2001
GILMER -- The eighth-ranked Pleasant Grove Hawks earned a 14-0 win over Gilmer on Friday night, handing the Buckeyes their first shutout loss since 2001.
Ironically, the last team to keep Gilmer (4-4, 1-1 in District 6-4A Division II) off the scoreboard was Pleasant Grove in the first round of the playoffs.
Gilmer managed just 176 yards of offense, was intercepted twice, and had a running back tackled in the end zone for a safety.
All of Pleasant Grove's scoring occurred in the first half.
Following the first-quarter safety, Bruce Garrett had scoring runs of 1 and 33 yards in the second. Garrett finished with 138 yards on 25 carries to lead the Hawks (6-2, 2-0).
Gilmer travels to Pittsburg next Friday night, while Pleasant Grove plays host to Liberty-Eylau.
