Pleasant Grove Stays Alive After Dominating Celina, 33-14 in Regional Round
SULPHUR SPRINGS -- Chauncey Martin ran for three touchdowns and Pleasant Grove held Celina to 107 total yards of offense in a 33-14 win on Friday in a Class 4A Division II regional playoff matchup.
Pleasant Grove, still unbeaten at 13-0 on the season, will face Melissa -- which beat Gilmer on Friday -- in the regional final at 7 p.m. Friday in Paris.
Martin scored on runs of 67, 26 and 3 yards over a dominating 24-0 run by the Hawks in the second and third quarters to put the game out of reach. After leading 16-7 at halftime. Pleasant Grove used a 26-yard touchdown run by Martin and a field goal by Dillon Williams to go up 26-7 heading into the fourth quarter.
Martin finished with 10 carries for 115 yards in the win.
TJ Cole added 66 yards on 16 carries for Pleasant Grove, while quarterback Ben Harmon completed 6 of 9 passes for 100 yards, which included a 18-yard touchdown pass to Carson Cox to open the scoring just 2:42 into the game.
Cox finished with three catches for 37 yards while Xavier Benson caught one pass for 47 yards.
Celina, which was held to under 40 yards of offense until late in the fourth quarter, put together a late drive that was capped by a 20-yard touchdown pass from Noah Ross to Jimmy Allan for the Bobcats' second score of the game.
Celina's only other touchdown was a 6-yard touchdown run by Ross to make the game 9-7 early in the second quarter.
