PITTSBURG -- The Pirates dropped the hammer on Spring Hill to the tune of a nearly 500 yards in a 54-17 win Friday at Pirate Stadium in District 7-4A Division II.

Pittsburg owned a 15-0 lead even before its offense got a snap. Red Shields returned the opening kick 77 yards ahead of a missed point after attempt, the Panthers mishandled a punt snap at the end of its first drive for a safety and then Shields returned the free kick for another touchdown.

When the Pirates offense finally got the ball, it took one play for quarterback Jaylon Jimmerson to connect with DeJour Dowell for a 21-0 lead.

Pittsburg (5-2, 2-0) owned a 28-0 advantage at the end of the first quarter and a 41-0 lead with more than eight minutes left in the second period before Spring Hill (3-4, 0-2) seemed to get its bearings.

The Pirates visit Gladewater next week. Spring Hill will hosts Gilmer.
