SFA First to Offer Lufkin’s Breylon Garcia
With the first what of what could be many Division I scholarship offers, Lufkin 2019 WR/DE Breylon Garcia was given an opportunity by Stephen F. Austin on Saturday.
Garcia (6-3, 207) announced the news via Twitter.
SFA, which hosted a camp for prospects Saturday in Nacogdoches, also offered San Augustine 2018 WR QuenTyvian Borders on Saturday.
Garcia was one of 87 participants at the fifth annual ETSN.fm + APEC Football Recruiting Combine on May 21 in Tyler. Choosing to participate at receiver, Garcia was one of the event's top testers.
The Panthers' standout clocked a laser-timed, 4.65-second 40-yard dash. That was good enough for fourth-best among the 22 receivers in attendance. Garcia also put up 12 bench press reps of 185 pounds, which was the most among his position group.
Garcia played both receiver and defensive end for Lufkin last season. His play helped the Panthers finish 2016 with a 7-4 record, which ended with a thrilling 50-49 loss to John Tyler in the first round of the Class 6A Division II playoffs.
He is among several Division I prospects returning for Lufkin. Other Panthers recruits include 2018 WR Malik Jackson, 2018 OL Hunter Hollis, 2019 DT Carl Williams, 2018 DB Savon Fields, and 2018 DB Jeremiah Davis.
SFA in an FCS school and member of the Southland Conference. The Lumberjacks are coached by Clint Conque, and finished last season with an overall record of 5-6.
Garcia will first become eligible to sign with any program that offers him in December of 2018.
