State 7-on-7 Tournament: Four East Texas Teams Advance to Championship Bracket

COLLEGE STATION — East Texas had five teams competing Thursday the Division II and Division III state 7-on-7 tournament at Veterans Park and Athletic Complex.

Four of them advanced to Friday’s championship bracket with stellar pool-play performances.

Gilmer and Spring Hill each went 2-1 in their respective pools, while Pleasant Grove did well enough at 1-2 to earn a spot in the championship bracket.

Tenaha, competing in its first state tournament, went 2-1 in its pool and reached the Division III championship bracket.

The Division II championship bracket, a 32-team, single-elimination format, gets underway at 9 a.m. Friday. Gilmer faces Mexia, Spring Hill meets Springtown, and Pleasant Grove clashes with Boerne in the Round of 32.

Tenaha will face Johnson City at 8 a.m. Friday in Division III championship play, which is a 16-team, single-elimination tournament.

Palestine went 0-3 in its pool on Thursday and will face Gonzales at 8 a.m. Friday in the Division II consolation bracket’s Round of 16.
