TCU Offers Longview’s Haynes King
The engine driving one of the state's most explosive offenses is once again drawing the attention of some of college football's top programs.
On Monday, Longview junior quarterback Haynes King received an offer from TCU, according to Lobos head coach John King.
Haynes King (6-3, 180) has 11 Division I FBS scholarship offers overall. TCU is his third from a Power 5 conference, joining Arkansas and Auburn.
The Lobos signal-caller also holds offers from Houston, Louisiana Tech, Louisiana-Monroe, Memphis, North Texas, Southern Miss, Texas State, and Tulsa. FCS program Stephen F. Austin has also offered.
Hayes King is re-writing the record books at Longview in 2018. In last Saturday's 63-17 playoff win over Prosper, he eclipsed the school mark for single-season touchdown passes.
He has thrown for 2,811 yards with 35 touchdowns and only one interception, and added 315 rushing yards and five touchdowns this season.
Haynes King and Longview (12-0) will face Austin Vandegrift (12-0) in a Class 6A Division II, Region II semifinal at 6 p.m. Saturday from Baylor University's McLane Stadium in Waco.
TCU is 6-6 this season under Gary Patterson, who is in his 18th full season as the head coach of the Horned Frogs.
Three other East Texans in the 2020 recruiting class hold offers from TCU -- Carthage ATH Kelvontay Dixon, Athens OL Garrett Hayes, and Newton DE James Sylvester.
The Horned Frogs currently have five commitments from East Texans in the 2019 class -- Newton ATH Josh Foster, Newton RB Darion Barlow, Newton ATH Tamauzia Brown, Jacksonville DB Deshawn McCuin, and Longview OL Marcus Williams.
Haynes King, like all juniors, is first eligible to sign with any program that offers him in December of 2019.
