TEAGUE – The No. 5-ranked Malakoff Tigers saw a 20-game regular game winning streak end with a 35-14 loss to the Teague Lions on Friday at Lion Stadium.

The game was senior night for the Lions, who now find themselves in a three-way tie with Malakoff and West in the district standings.

West (7-2 overall, 5-1 in district) was a 42-7 winner over the Palestine Westwood Panthers.

Withe the loss, Malakoff drops to 8-1 overall and 5-1 in district play with one game remaining. The Tigers end the regular season Friday as they host the Elkhart Elks.

Elkhart (3-6 overall, 1-5 in district) lost to Groesbeck, 49-0, Friday at home.

In the loss to Teague, the Lions (7-2 overall, 5-1 in district) opened the scoring as Tayvis Coleman scored on a five-yard run with 8:35 remaining in the opening quarter.

Teague then took a 13-0 lead with 1:45 remaining in the first quarter as Coleman scored on a one-yard run. The Lions missed the PAT by Roberto Escobedo.

Malakoff got on the score board with 2:27 remaining in the first half as Zee Bailey blasted his way for a 30-yard TD. Hector Romero booted the PAT good for the 13-7 deficit.

In the second half, Malakoff took its only lead of the game as senior quarterback Judd Miller scored on a two-yard run. The score came with 10:20 remaining in the third quarter as Romero booted the PAT good.

Teague countered with another impressive drive as they scored on a 22-yard run for the 21-14 lead. The Lions went for two as quarterback Zack Satterwhite found Trevor Cooper for the two-point conversion.

The Lions added to the lead in the fourth quarter as Coleman scored on an eight-yard run. The kick was good by Escobedo for the 28-14 lead.

The final touchdown of the game came with 1:49 remaining in regulation as Gelico Green scored on a 62-yard run for the 35-14 lead. Escobedo booted the PAT good.

This was the 17th meeting between the two schools as Teague now holds a 9-8 lead in the series between the two schools.
