Texas State Offers Whitehouse’s Trevor Lawrence

Texas State reached out to an 11th local senior football prospect Friday.

Whitehouse defensive end Trevor Lawrence is the latest player to pick up a college scholarship invitation from the Bobcats program. It's his second overall option from the NCAA Division I FBS level and follows an offer last month from Louisiana-Monroe.

Lawrence (6-4, 245) was part of a bounce back squad last season. Led by a stingy defense, which averaged about 22 points against per game, the team gave Whitehouse its first playoff appearance since newly drafted Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes II was its signal-caller.

The end made 46 tackles as a junior -- including 10 tackles for loss and 2.5 sacks -- in eight personal games played as Whitehouse worked its way to a final record of 6-5.

Lawrence was one of 11 defensive linemen to compete at the fifth annual ETSN Combine at APEC in Tyler last month. Personal highlights included a laser-timed 5.19-second 40-yard dash and seven bench press reps of 225 pounds.

Texas State went 2-10 last season under first-year coach Everett Withers.

Withers joined the program after two seasons at James Madison. James Madison won the FCS national championship this past season mostly with players Withers and his staff recruited.

The Bobcats successfully landed Lufkin quarterback Kordell Rodgers in the past recruiting cycle. A second East Texan signed, but he subsequently opted to play at the junior college level.

Three older East Texans will be on Texas State's 2017 roster in Pine Tree receiver Mason Hayes, Liberty-Eylau receiver Thurman Morbley and Wills Point offensive lineman Jacob Rowland.

Lawrence will become eligible to sign with any Division I school that offers him in December.
