Thursday Basketball Roundup: Grapeland Outlasts Damiyne Durham + Oakwood in Matchup of Class A Powers

GRAPELAND -- The Grapeland Sandies scored a 91-74 victory over Oakwood on Thursday at the Grapeland Tournament, a matchup featuring a pair of the top Class A teams in the state.

Grapeland, ranked No. 2 in Class A Division I by the Texas Association of Basketball Coaches, was led by Jacolby Simpson's 30 points. Patrick Walker added 17 points in the winning effort.

Oakwood, which is No. 2 in 1A D-II, was paced by Baylor commit Damiyne Durham, who finished with a game-high 36 points. Teammate Jacquez Anderson added 17 in the loss.

Earlier in the day, Oakwood rolled past Elkhart by the score of 78-49. Durham finished with 42 points in the rout.

Madisonville scored an 81-54 win over Palestine Westwood on Thursday also at the Grapeland Tournament.

Kilgore Goes 2-0 At Paris Tournament

PARIS -- The Kilgore Bulldogs took a pair of wins Thursday at the Paris Holiday Tournament -- 53-42 over New Boston and 56-40 over Roxton, which is ranked No. 21 in 1A D-II.

Trey Conrod led Kilgore (6-7) against New Boston with 12 points, six rebounds, five assists and five steals. Nick Orange added 12 points, four boards, one assist and one steal, while Clery Delmas finished with 10 points, three rebounds and a steal.

In the win over Roxton, Conrod finished with 14 points, six rebounds, three assists and two steals. Orange also scored 14 points to go with three boards and an assist. Xaviar Gaona added nine points, nine assists and four rebounds in the win.
