Saturday Basketball: Winona Girls Capture Big Sandy Tournament Title + More

BIG SANDY -- The Winona Ladycats captured the championship of the Big Sandy Tournament with a 72-33 win over Carlisle on Saturday.

Shay Virgil led Winona (7-0) with 14 points and 16 rebounds. Jamece Gulley added 13 points and six assists, Mallory Shacklett had 12 points and five boards, Kawaii Gordon finished with 11 points and 10 rebounds, while the trio of Larissa Gordon, Kayma Moore and Darrish Crawford combined for 11 points and 16 steals.

Winona returns to action Dec. 3 at Elkhart, while Carlisle hosts Douglass on Monday.

No. 2 Martin's Mill Edges Fairfield

FAIRFIELD -- The second-ranked Martin's Mill Lady Mustangs earned a 32-29 win over Fairfield on Saturday.

Cheyenne Brown led the way for the Lady Mustangs (4-1) with 16 points.

Martin's Mill is at Lindale on Monday.

Hughes Springs Topples Simms Bowie

SIMMS -- The Hughes Springs Lady Mustangs took down Simms Bowie 50-34 on Saturday.

KJ Murphy led Hughes Springs (2-2) with 12 points, four assists and four steals. Destiny Gonzales added 11 points, Rebecca Crossland finished with eight and Breanne Gunn had seven points and seven rebounds.

Hughes Springs hosts Pleasant Grove on Tuesday, while Simms Bowie plays at Paul Pewitt on Monday.
