NEW CHAPEL HILL -- Gilmer's undefeated district campaign continued Friday night.

Skylar Hollis connected on a tiebreaking, two-run single in the sixth inning to help give the Buckeyes a 6-3 victory over the Chapel Hill Bulldogs.

Gilmer moved to 7-0 in District 16-3A with the win. Chapel Hill dropped to 2-5 in district.

"We like to keep it close with good pitching and good defense, then eek out a run here or there," said Gilmer coach Lonnie Henry. "That's one thing I can say about my kids, they stay locked in, even after an eight-day layoff. I can't say enough about these kids, they compete every day. It's pretty characteristic of how we play."

Buckeyes pitcher Colin Hardin went the distance, giving up one earned run on nine hits with six strikeouts.

The southpaw also helped himself at the plate. Down 2-0 after three, Hardin knocked in two with a single in the fourth. He finished 2-for-4 on the night.

Jaidon Parrish went 3-for-3 with a run scored, while Dylan Bowman also knocked in a run for Gilmer.

Chapel Hill left-hander Patrick Day came on in relief of Braden Nelson in the top of fifth. After striking out the side, he walked four batters in the sixth, setting up Hollis' game-winning hit.

Chapel Hill's Andrew Black and Phil Day had two hits apiece, while catcher Morgan Skidmore added a two-run double in the loss.

Both teams play Saturday. Gilmer plays host to Gladewater in district play, while Chapel Hill visits Pollok Central for a non-district contest.
