Week 3 5A/4A Poll: Top Five Unchanged; Hallsville Jumps To No. 6

The top five in the ETSN.fm weekly 5A/4A poll remained unchanged following this past weekend's results, which were good for teams ranked first through fifth.

No. 1 Longview waited a while on the lightning before routing rival Marshall 48-0 for the 12th consecutive time. The Lobos (2-1) visit another rival, Lufkin, on Friday. The third-ranked Panthers pounded rival Nacogdoches 45-7 on Friday.

Second-ranked John Tyler (2-1) rebounded from an upset loss to Lancaster to beat crosstown rival Tyler Lee 21-0 to avenge last year's loss to the Red Raiders, who fell from seventh to the ninth in the ETSN.fm 5A/4A poll. Tyler Lee (0-3) tries to get in the win column Friday when the Red Raiders host Texas High, which moved from 10th to ninth in this week's poll after having a bye this past weekend.

No. 4 Whitehouse got a 500-plus-yard performance from junior quarterback Patrick Mahomes to edge Sulphur Springs 38-33. That loss sent Sulphur Springs (1-2) from sixth to seventh. Mount Pleasant, which scored 92 points in its first two games, put 76 on the board in a 43-point win against Terrell to keep the high-scoring Tigers in the fifth-place spot. Hallsville jumped ahead of Sulphur Springs with a 21-20 win at Henderson that moved the Bobcats (2-1) from eighth to sixth.

Jacksonville lost a 34-33 heartbreaker at Gilmer, but found its way back into the ETSN.fm 5A/4A poll at No. 10. The Indians (1-2) were helped by Lindale's loss, which dropped the Eagles (1-2) from ninth to out of the poll.
