Darian Brooks and Tatum Come Back for 22-14 Victory at Winnsboro
WINNSBORO -- Tatum erased a 14-point halftime deficit with three third-quarter touchdowns in a 22-14 win at Winnsboro on Friday.
Darian Brooks completed 8 of 9 second-half passes for 121 yards and two touchdowns, both to Toby Henderson during the Eagles' 22-point third quarter.
Following Shaq Johnson's nine-yard touchdown run early in the third that got the Eagles on the scoreboard, Tatum tied the game 14-14 after Brooks' 15-yard strike to Henderson and Johnson's two-point conversion run with 2:52 left in the third. The Eagles (2-0) got the go-ahead score on a 22-yard touchdown throw to Henderson with 1:09 left in the third, and Johnson added another two-pointer for the eight-point lead.
Tatum's Alexis Garza recovered a fumble and Javolick Garrett intercepted a pass to set up Tatum's second and third scoring opportunities of the third period.
Winnsboro drove to the Tatum 14-yard line in the fourth quarter, but a fourth-down pass fell incomplete in the end zone. Tatum then gained a couple of first downs to run the final four-plus minutes off the clock.
Winnsboro took a 14-0 lead into halftime following two touchdowns from quarterback Luke Tebbetts. Tebbetts hit Ryan Zimmerman for a 27-yard first-quarter touchdown, and added a four-yard TD run in the second for the two-score halftime lead.
Tatum hosts Pleasant Grove at 7:30 p.m. Friday. Winnsboro visits Mineola.
