MARTIN'S MILL -- The Mustangs, ranked No. 3 state-wide in the Texas Association of Basketball Coaches' weekly Class 2A poll, flexed their muscles with a 92-34 win against Cumby in District 14-2A play.

Hunter Conway helped Martin's Mill (23-4, 5-0) put the game away early with 17 points in the first quarter on the way to a game-best 28 points.

Davis Moore, Jacob Greenlee and Logan Jenkins also hit double-digit scoring with 19, 12 and 11 points respectively.

Moore made five 3-pointers and Jenkins scored from beyond the arc three times.

Travis Taylor led Cumby with 14 points.

Martin's Mill will visit Quinlan Boles on Tuesday.

 

No. 2 Laneville Outguns Chireno

CHIRENO -- Chireno scored 59 points, but got nowhere near Laneville in Friday's District 28-A game.

The Yellowjackets (19-3, 8-0) recorded 30 assists and 25 steals en route to a 101-59 win.

Kendrick Anderson led five Laneville scorers in double digits with 25 points. Ladarius Arnett (17), Christian Brantley (16) Tiarel Franklin (12) and Jaylon Grant (11) rounded out the other Laneville top performers.

Jeffrey Cleveland led Chireno with 18 points.

Chireno will visit Gary on Tuesday. Laneville will host Apple Springs.

 

No. 21 Waskom Runs Away From Elysian Fields

WASKOM -- Kevin Johnson helped Waskom move to 9-5 overall and a perfect 5-0 in District 17-3A with 20 points in the Wildcats' 74-46 win against Elysian Fields.

Kaleb Haynes added 17 points for Waskom and Chan Amie finished his game with 10 for the winning side.

Elysian Fields had two players with 10 or more points. Sharray Ratliffe scored 13 points and Matt Martin finished right at 10.

Waskom visits Jefferson on Tuesday.

Elysian Fields, now 1-4 in the league, will try to rebound Tuesday at home against Sabine.

 

Girls Basketball

No. 9 Bullard Sweeps Season Series Against Gilmer

BULLARD -- The Lady Panthers won a third and final game this season against Gilmer on Friday, 40-26.

Lexi Kirgan led Bullard with 17 points.

DeAnna Howard and Maddy Slayter both hit three 3-pointers on the way to 13 and 11 points, respectively.

Bullard, which defeated Gilmer earlier this month and in the 2014 Macy Chenevert Patriot Classic, moved to 27-5 overall and 7-0 in District 16-4A play.

The Lady Panthers will host Chapel Hill on Feb. 6. Gilmer (20-7, 5-3) visits Chapel Hill on Tuesday.

 

Chapel Hill Evens Up With Kilgore In Win

NEW CHAPEL HILL -- Chapel Hill pulled even with Kilgore in the District 16-4A standings with a 46-31 win.

Both teams are now 3-4 in the league.

Mykaela Alfred led Chapel Hill with 12 points and was followed closely by Kyia Moore's 10 points. Chapel Hill had eight total scorers.

Destiny McAfee scored a team-best 12 points for Kilgore.

Chapel Hill will host Gilmer on Tuesday. Gladewater will simultaneously visit Kilgore.

 

No. 9 Martin's Mill Takes Care Of Cumby

MARTIN'S MILL -- The Lady Mustangs cruised to a 76-18 win against Cumby in District 14-2A.

Cheyenne Brown led Martin's Mill with 26 points. Briley Moon finished the game with 12 points, including a team-best two 3-pointers.

Martin's Mill (21-7, 7-0) held four Cumby scorers to no more than nine points apiece.

The Lady Mustangs travel to Quinlan Boles on Tuesday.
