Pleasant Grove Pulls Away from Pittsburg to Stay Unbeaten
PITTSBURG -- TJ Cole scored two second-half touchdowns and No. 9 Pleasant Grove stayed undefeated on the season with a 28-10 win over Pittsburg on Friday night.
The win moved the Hawks to 8-0 on the season and 3-0 in District 7-4A Division II, while Pittsburg (5-3, 2-1) suffered its first district loss.
Cole ran 12 times for 74 yards and two scores in the third quarter, which helped Pleasant Grove pull away after going into halftime with a 7-3 lead. His 15-yard touchdown 2:40 into the second half put the Hawks up 14-3 and his 46-yard run gave his team a 21-10 lead as time expired in the third.
Bruce Garrett led Pleasant Grove in rushing with 117 yards and a 22-yard fourth-quarter touchdown on 12 carries.
Hawks quarterback Ben Harmon completed 5 of 8 passes for 90 yards with a touchdown and an interception.
Pittsburg led 3-0 after the first quarter, but Pleasant Grove responded with a 17-yard touchdown pass from Harmon to Carson Cox to go up 7-3 with 34 seconds left in the half.
Mark Thomas led Pittsburg on the ground with 21 carries for 65 yards. Pleasant Grove held the Pirates to less than three yards per carry and 215 total yards of offense in the win.
