Girls Basketball Roundup: Sky Holmes Powers Pine Tree Past Marshall + More
MARSHALL — Pine Tree got another big night from sophomore standout Sky Holmes in Tuesday’s 33-26 regular season-closing win at Marshall.
Holmes a 6-foot-1 post, recorded 18 points and 19 rebounds in the victory, which pushed Pine Tree to 16-13 overall and 5-5 in District 14-4A. Pine Tree’s Daneisha Patterson added 11 points.
Pine Tree plays No. 8 McKinney North (28-3) at 6:30 p.m. Monday in Van in a Class 4A Region II bi-district playoff.
Canton Clinches Playoff Berth
CANTON — The Canton Lady Eagles scored a 41-27 win over Van on Tuesday to clinch the final playoff spot from District 15-3A.
Kassidy Wilkerson led Canton (15-16, 5-5) with 12 points, while Emery Elliott added 11.
Van finished the season 2-8 in district play.
Troup Tops Frankston, 59-42
TROUP — Troup rode a 10-point halftime lead to beat Frankston 59-42 in District 18-2A action Tuesday.
Tonesha Kincade and Cheney Cover led Troup with 14 points apiece, while Josee Ross scored 13 points. Frankston’s Lateesha Gray scored 13 points as well, followed by Chasity Cooper with 10 and Mallory Winkler with eight.
Troup led 33-23 at halftime and 43-33 after three quarters. A 16-9 fourth-quarter edge helped the Lady Tigers put away the rival Maidens.
White Oak Clinches Third in 17-2A with Nine-Point Victory
WHITE OAK — White Oak secured third place from District 17-2A thanks to Tuesday’s 54-45 win against Jefferson.
Dorothy Swanson and Makenzie Goll scored 12 points apiece to lead the Ladynecks, who improved to 20-9 overall and 10-4 in 17-2A play.
No. 1 Martin’s Mill Cruises to 31-Point Rout of Overton
MARTIN’S MILL — Three players scored in double figures to lead top-ranked Martin’s Mill to a 64-33 win against Overton on senior night.
Cheyenne Brown scored a game-high 21 points, while Haily Jenkins added 15 for Martin’s Mill, which improved to 27-4 overall and a perfect 12-0 in district competition. Meagan Weatherford scored 10 points.
Taylor Munns, Cassidy McCoy, and Madi Daniel combined for 18 points.
Abbey Mackey led Overton with 17 points.
Neches Clinches District Championship Over Wells
NECHES — Mary Williams and McKay-Lee Chapman scored eight points apiece to lead Neches to a 31-30 district championship-clinching victory over Wells.
The win gives Neches a 19-12 overall record and 9-1 district mark. The loss dropped Wells, which finishes as league runner-up, to 8-2 in district.
Ivy Rieke Leads Beckville to Three-Point Win at Big Sandy
BIG SANDY — Ivy Rieke tallied 23 points, 11 rebounds, and four steals to power Beckville to a 45-42 win at Big Sandy on Tuesday.
Beckville (15-15, 4-8) got 13 points, seven rebounds, and three steals from Maya Bradford, while Jennifer Davis pulled down six boards.
