Tournament season for East Texas volleyball teams continued Thursday with the commencement of the Tyler Invitational and Hughes Springs Tournament. Whitehouse, Pine Tree, Paris North Lamar and Mabank won their respective pools in Tyler. Redwater, Liberty-Eylau, Queen City and host Hughes Springs came out on top in pool play at the Hughes Springs Tournament.

Como-Pickton struggled in 2013 to say the least. The Eagles scored one touchdown all season and gave up 574 points on the way to an 0-10 record. However, the squad is returning 18 starters and 22 total lettermen to just three graduations.

LINDALE -- The 10th-ranked Lindale Lady Eagles defeated Corsicana 25-20, 23-25, 25-12, 25-13 on Friday to remain unbeaten in District 16-4A.

CORSICANA -- The 11th-ranked Lindale Lady Eagles scored a 25-12, 25-11, 25-15 sweep of Corsicana on Tuesday to remain unbeaten in District 16-4A.

ETSN.fm had a feeling both Cooper and Edgewood would be battling it out for the District 8-2A Division II title, and through four weeks, those two appear to be head-and-shoulders above the rest of the league.

All three playoff teams from District 8-2A Division II reached at least the second round of the playoffs in 2012, including an Edgewood team that hopes to build off its first 10-win season in 20 years.

Over the past three decades, the UIL has made it easier to make the playoffs, which has allowed previously unsuccessful programs to put together a few wins and make the postseason once in a while.

Edgewood senior Jacob Sharff was voted Most Valuable Player on the 14-2A all-district baseball team.

WHITEHOUSE -- Mikechell Potts won long-jump gold and Arp won the 800-meter relay to fuel the Tigers' Class 2A Region III track and field championship Saturday at Wildcat Stadium.
