ROWLETT -- Emory Rains, a Class 4A program, got a big win against Dallas Skyline ahead of losses to Mesquite Poteet and host Rowlett at Rowlett's volleyball tournament Friday. The Lady Cats finished pool play with a 1-2 record and await their first pairing in Saturday's tournament action.

BECKVILLE -- Kinley Pepper played a role in 57 Beckville points toward the Ladycats' come-from-behind, 24-26, 25-20, 21-25, 25-23, 15-7 win Tuesday against Nacogdoches Central Heights in both teams' season-opening game. Spring Hill middle blocker Ann Hollas climbed the ETSN.fm East Texas Volleyball Super Team list each year, but after achieving first-team last season there was only one award more out there to target. EDGEWOOD -- Emory Rains rallied from a loss in the first set for a 21-25, 25-18, 25-18, 25-23 win against Mabank in the Class 3A bi-district round Tuesday at Edgewood High School. Setters Shelbi Sheppard and Corely Cole turned in excellent performances with 33 assists and 18 assists, respectively. Cole also recorded five blocks in the victory.

QUITMAN -- The Lady Bulldogs spoiled Alba-Golden's quest for perfection within District 14-3A with a five-set win Friday. The match score was 27-25, 16-25, 25-21, 15-25, 15-8.

BECKVILLE -- The Ladycats didn't have many problems in a 25-7, 25-7, 25-10 match victory Friday at home against Timpson. Beckville, the No. 2 team in the latest Texas Girls Coaches Association's Class 2A state volleyball poll, advanced to 29-5 overall and 9-0 in District 20-2A...

BECKVILLE -- Beckville took down Carlisle in straight sets, 25-17, 25-16, 25-18 and moved to 6-0 in District 20-2A. Natalie Morris led the Ladycats with 14 points in the match. She aced a team-best four serves and scored 10 kills, second-best behind Carley Lawhorn's 12 kills...

EMORY -- No. 25 Rains kicked off District 14-4A play the right way with a narrow, 29-27, 25-22, 17-25, 23-25, 15-13 victory against Canton. Ashley Gowin played a big role on defense with 30 digs as did Courtney Luckett and Charlotte Bradshaw with 28 digs apiece in the victory.

SHELBYVILLE -- Leann Youngblood served up 12 aces in addition to three kills in Gary's 25-3, 25-9, 25-6 win at Shelbyville. The win bumped the Lady Cats to 2-1 in District 20-2A competition.
