While the top three all stayed the same in this week's ETSN.fm East Texas Class 3A poll, Malakoff made a three-spot jump to No. 4 after a dominating 39-14 win over Daingerfield last Friday night.

NEW BOSTON -- The New Boston Lions held off a second-half rally by recovering an onside kick with 1:40 remaining, sealing a 17-14 win Friday night.

There was a big shake-up in this week's Associated Press Class 5A poll.

The top four teams in the preseason ETSN.fm East Texas Class 3A poll all suffered opening-week losses, paving the way for Corrigan-Camden, who moved up five spots to this week's No. 1 ranking.

Daingerfield and New Boston have become quite familiar with one another over the past four seasons, meeting seven times since 2010 -- three coming in the playoffs.

BIG SANDY -- Beckville got the last laugh against Tyler Grace. The Lady Bearcats (11-3) defeated Grace for the Big Sandy Tournament title Saturday, just two days after falling to the Lady Cougars in an earlier tournament match.

There's certainly star power and bad blood in District 7-3A Division I. New Boston and Daingerfield are slated to meet for the third time in 13 months, and the Tigers will be looking for a little payback after dominating the Lions in district play and then getting handled in the regional semifinals by the same team.

New Boston came close in 2014 to winning it all. The window opportunity is still there. The Lions are the No. 1 team in ETSN.fm's Class 3A Preseason Poll.

With the season nearly two weeks away, several East Texas teams will begin with targets on the their backs. Ten area programs are ranked in the top 10 in the preseason Associated Press high school football polls, which were released Wednesday.
