Top 10 Girls Clash Between No. 8 La Poynor + Top-Ranked Martin’s Mill On Tap Friday

There many not be a better basketball matchup -- girls or boys -- anywhere in East Texas than the District 17-A Division I battle between the top-ranked Martin's Mill Lady Mustangs and No. 8 La Poynor in Martin's Mill.

The Lady Mustangs (18-2) feature McNeese signee, 5-8 guard Haily Jenkins and the 6-0 post combination of sophomore Cheyenne Brown and senior Meagan Weatherford. Martin's MIll's only two losses came against Tyler T.K. Gorman (No. 3 in the large private school poll) and Liberty-Eylau (No. 12 in 3A).

Another key girls matchup features the District 16-4A opener between No. 24 Lindale and John Tyler.

In Class 2A, Garrison is at 25th-ranked Crockett, while Waskom faces Tatum, coming off a first-place finish at the Tenaha Holiday Hoops tournament.

There are several crucial battles in 1A, including Slocum (No. 3 in 1A D-I) at Latexo, Joaquin at fourth-ranked Martinsville, Lufkin Pineywoods Academy at No. 17 Zavalla, Alto at No. 24 New Summerfield and Chireno at Kennard, which is ranked in Class A Division II.
