Tuesday Basketball: Whitehouse Edges Lufkin + No. 1 Martin’s Mill Girls Crush Carlisle
WHITEHOUSE -- The Whitehouse Wildcats made nine 3-pointers in a 60-58 win over Lufkin in non-district boys basketball action Tuesday afternoon at Wildcat Arena.
Spencer Shaw led the way for Whitehouse (14-4) with 25 points. Devonn Miles added 14 points, including four 3-pointers. Brady Hill chipped in with 11 points, while Jaylon Dews hit for nine points -- all on 3-point shots.
Whitehouse continues its season Friday at home against Hallsville, while Lufkin plays at The Woodlands on Friday in District 14-5A action.
GIRLS
No. 1 Martin's Mill Cruises Past Carlisle
MARTIN'S MILL -- The top-ranked Martin's Mill Lady Mustangs rolled to a 66-24 win over Carlisle on Tuesday in District 17-A Division I action.
Cheyenne Brown paced Martin's Mill (20-2, 3-0) with 27 points. Alyssa Pate added 11 points, which included three 3-pointers. Madi Daniel added eight points, while Cassidy McCoy and Hailey Hawes finished with seven points apiece.
The Lady Mustangs were coming off a championship performance at the McDonald's Invitational in College Station last weekend. Martin's Mill defeated Fairfield 32-25 in the championship game as Brown finished with a game-high 20 points. Martin's Mill's other three wins in the tournament were 49-44 over Paradise in overtime, 49-30 over Mount Vernon and 43-19 over Maypearl. Brown averaged 20.8 points per game in the tournament.
Martin's Mill is at LaPoynor on Friday, while Carlisle hosts Beckville also on Friday.
