Palestine’s Jarrell Owens Commits to TCU

TCU recently lost a commitment from an East Texas player, but it didn't take long for the Horned Frogs to pick up another Piney Woods pledge.

Palestine's Jarrell Owens committed to TCU on Tuesday afternoon, according to the Palestine coaching staff. TCU offered Owens only a week ago.

Owens is the second East Texan in the 2014 class to commit to TCU. Longview defensive tackle Zaycoven Henderson pledged to the Horned Frogs in late February.

TCU lost a commitment from Center 2015 safety Johnny Shaw last week when Shaw committed to Texas after the Longhorns offered him in person at a camp in Austin.

Owens, whose commitment was first reported by ESPN.com, is a 6-foot-3, 230-pound recruit in the 2014 class that has blossomed in recent weeks and months on the recruiting trail.

Owens has grabbed schools' attention during various camp stops after a junior season that saw him limited because of a nagging injury. He played running back when he was healthy, but is expected to move to defense full time in college, most likely at defensive end or linebacker.

Owens ran for 283 yards and eight touchdowns on 60 carries in 2012, when the Wildcats went 7-4 with a Class 3A Division I Region III first-round playoff appearance.

Owens is 1 of 3 Palestine players in the 2014 class with at least one offer entering the summer. Running back Ben Luckett (6-0, 195) and offensive lineman Brian Thlang (6-2, 290) have also been offered by ULM. Thlang committed to ULM on June 12.
