As the regular season enters its final week, East Texas' best football teams continue to leave an impression on statewide voters for the Associated Press high school football poll, as seven area teams remained ranked among their respective classification's top 10.

John Tyler (7-2) moved up one spot to No. 9 after the Lions thoroughly dominated district rival Jacksonville, 62-7, last Friday night. Longview (7-2), winners of seven straight, and Lufkin (5-4) received votes.

Three East Texas squads are once again in the 4A top 10. Gilmer (9-0), an 85-14 victor over Nevada Community, remained at No. 3. Unbeaten Van (9-0) rolled to a 49-14 win over Wills Point last week and stayed at No. 7, while a 54-14 Gladewater (8-1) win over Spring Hill was enough to keep the Bears eighth.

Jasper (6-3), which defeated previously unbeaten Huffman Hargrave last Friday, received one vote.

In the 3A poll, Waskom (8-1) stayed at No. 5 after its 49-14 rout of Troup, and Malakoff (8-1) held steady at No. 8 following the Tigers' 63-0 shutout of Kemp. Newton (6-3), Corrigan-Camden (8-1) and New Boston (8-1) all received votes.

Alto (8-0) stayed at No. 7 in the 2A rankings after its 31-6 defeat of Kerens, while Shelbyville (8-0), Union Grove (8-0) and Tenaha (7-1) each received votes.
