Tuesday’s Baseball + Softball Roundup: Lindale Baseball Controls 16-4A

LINDALE -- The Eagles took control of District 16-4A with a 6-3 win against Corsicana in front of a large crowd and with several scouts on hand.

The matchup pitted two teams that were looking to stay unbeaten in league play and Sam Sitton on the mound after a very strong performance in what was then thought to be a surprising win against Whitehouse.

But Lindale jumped on the favored Corsicana team early with a run in the first inning and then two more in bottom of the second. Corsicana didn't go down without a fight though and had tied the game by the top fifth.

The Eagles' bats got hot again in the bottom fifth for two runs and then added the game's final tally in the sixth inning.

Sitton pitched for the complete game, seven innings in which he allowed six hits and tossed out 11 strikeouts.

Lindale's pitcher also batted 2-for-3 in the game as did Jon French and Bryce Deupree. Kris Bond, Kyle Bond, Micah Walker and Ryan Dudley added a hit each to the Eagles' 10-hit night.

The boys from Lindale moved to 12-4-2 overall and a district-best 3-0 in 16-4A.

Lindale will host Jacksonville on Friday to wrap up the first half of district play.

Nacogdoches Downs Whitehouse in Extras

NACOGDOCHES -- The Nacogdoches Dragons scored a run in the bottom of the 10th inning to take down ninth-ranked Whitehouse 7-6 in District 16-4A action Tuesday night.

The win improved Nacogdoches to 2-1 in district, while Whitehouse (15-2, 1-2) dropped its second district game in a week.

Will Boozer went 2-for-4 with a double and three runs scored, Brigham Hill had two hits and drove in a run and Reed Watson doubled and had two RBIs to lead Nacogdoches at the plate.

Patrick Mahomes led Whitehouse, going 2-for-3 with two doubles and three RBIs, while Tanner Roach had two RBIs in the losing effort.

Nate Harshbarger got the win after he tossed two scoreless innings in relief of the starter Hill, who allowed six runs (four earned) on seven hits with 10 strikeouts and two walks. Kyle Elliot also pitched a scoreless eighth inning in relief for the Dragons.

Mahomes got the start for Whitehouse. He allowed six runs on five hits with four strikeouts and six walks in seven innings. Jake Parker allowed a run on two hits with four strikeouts and four walks in 2 2/3 innings of relief.

Nacogdoches is back in action Friday at John Tyler, while Whitehouse faces Corsicana on the road Friday.

Longview Falls in 10 Innings to North Mesquite 

MESQUITE -- The Lobos were on the wrong end of a 10-inning, 2-1 game against North Mesquite in District 12-5A play.

Dezmond Chumley pitched a strong game for the Lobos. He went six innings with six strikeouts to five hits and two walks.

North Mesquite's Trevor Welton pitched eight innings with nine strikeouts.

The game came down to relievers and Sam Scarborough took the loss despite recording four strikeouts in 3.1 innings.

Scarborough also had a good night at the plate. He batted 2-for-4 with a stolen base.

Carthage Knocks Off No. 2 Diboll

DIBOLL -- The Carthage Bulldogs erupted for six runs two-out runs in the top of the ninth inning and then held on in the bottom half to upset second-ranked Diboll 10-8 on Tuesday night in District 20-3A action.

The win kept Carthage (12-6, 4-0) unbeaten in district.

The big top of the ninth was highlighted by Kolby Blissett's two-run triple and Blake Bogenschutz's bases-loaded triple. Bogenschutz finished the night with four RBIs, William Rittenberry was 3-for-5 and pitched the first seven innings with eight strikeouts.

Bogenschutz got the win on the mound by pitching the final two innings in relief. He allowed four unearned runs in the bottom of the ninth because of two costly errors, but Carthage was able to survive.

Carthage trailed 4-0, but the Bulldogs tied with a four-run sixth, thanks in part to RBIs from Jared Blissett, Jack Morris and Rittenberry.

The season continues Friday for Carthage when it travels to Center. Diboll hosts Pollok Central also on Friday.

Chapel Hill Topples Gladewater

NEW CHAPEL HILL -- The Bulldogs got a nice 5-0 win against Gladewater in District 16-3A play.

Braden Nelson pitched the complete-game shutout for Chapel Hill. He threw 10 strikeouts to just four hits and one walk.

The Bulldogs were paced offensively by Jaylon Redwine's 1 RBI, 3-for-3 night. Pat Day also had a perfect night at the plate, 2-for-2 with two runs scores and 2 RBIs.

Gladewater's Tra Gorden batted 2-for-3.

Elsewhere in the District...

GILMER -- The Buckeyes defeated Bullard 2-1.

Bryce Tomlin was the winning pitcher with 13 strikeouts and just three hits and a walk against him.

Carlisle Stays Strong

PRICE -- Carlisle defeated Gary, 10-3, in District 20-A action.

The Indians broke a 1-1 tie in through three innings with a five-run bottom fourth.

Zach Brightwell, Kolton Heim and Dalton Sanders each has 2 RBIs in the win.

Justin McMurty picked up the win through four innings of work. Ben Goss closed the game to preserve the win.

Joaquin moves to 11-4

TIMPSON -- Joaquin picked up a 21-A win by way of a 7-0 score against Timpson.

Freshman Brock Lawson pitched a complete-game shutout with 12 strikeouts.

Sophomore catcher Cole Powdrill batted 3-for-3 with two runs scored and freshman Nate Belrose had a big, 3 RBIs hit to power the Rams to victory.

Guard Wins 30-1

RICHARDSON -- Brook Hill's Clayton Engel hit for the cycle in a four-inning, 30-1 win for the Guard against Richardson Canyon Creek.

Brook Hill scored five runs in both the second and third innings, then 11 runs in the third inning and nine runs in the fourth inning.

Engel led the Guard with a 6-for-6 night and 12 RBIs.

Carthage Bounces Back

DIBOLL -- The Lady Dogs are back on the winning track after a loss Friday with a 3-1 win against a quality Diboll team in District 20-3A.

Carthage pitcher Samantha Clakley struck out 13 batters and allowed just one hit and four walks.

Lady Dogs batters combined for four hits through seven innings.

Alto Defeats Overton in Three Innings

ALTO -- The No. 4 Yellowjackets defeated District 21-A foe Overton, 15-0, in three innings.

Alto used an 11-run second inning to put the game out of reach after recording three runs in the first frame.

The Yellowjackets will visit Douglass on Friday with a 6-0 district record on the line as well as a 14-3 record overall.
