Alba-Golden played a complete game against Hawkins on the way to a 37-13 win Friday and a 2-0 start.

It could have been a different game without cornerback Cody Melton, the ETSN.fm/Dairy Queen Defensive Player of the Week, however.

Melton picked off Hawkins twice and forced a fumble -- taking away up to three scores from the Hawks. He also was credited with four tackles and a pass breakup in the win.

The Panthers defense allowed 71 yards through the game.

Aside from a strong showing at corner, Melton carried the ball eight times for 62 yards and returned two kickoffs for a total of 26 yards.

Alba-Golden will be back in action Friday at home against Quinlan Boles. Whitewright will visit Alba-Golden Stadium next week, and the Panthers will travel to Big Sandy on Sept. 26 to wrap up non-district play. Whitewright and Big Sandy are currently undefeated.
