It's been an up-and-down season for the Gilmer Buckeyes in 2018, but last Friday night, they provided a glimpse into their glorious past.

Gilmer knocked off previously unbeaten Sunnyvale, 38-24, to open the playoffs, giving future opponents in the region cause for concern.

Buckeyes senior running back Bran Webb enjoyed big success in the bi-district win. He finished with 33 carries for 265 yards and two touchdowns.

For his efforts, Webb is the ETSN.fm/Dairy Queen Offensive Player of the Week. He follows last week's winner, Eustace quarterback Alejandro Sanchez.

Webb, who has missed three games this season to injury, has rushed for 659 yards and seven touchdowns this year. He also has 13 catches for 237 yards and a touchdown.

Gilmer (5-6) plays Fairfield (9-2) in the Class 4A Division II area round. Kickoff is scheduled for 2 p.m. Friday from Bruce Field in Athens.
