QuenTyvian Borders will be a nightmare to defend, and there's nothing worse than standing out in the open field and seeing big Fred Thacker lower his shoulder in your direction.

The athleticism of San Augustine. The brute force of Alto. It's scary stuff for all defenders involved in kicking off Halloween weekend.

The Wolves will travel to the Yellowjackets' place Oct. 27 for what promises to be one of the most exciting games of the District 11-2A Division I slate. This contest checks in as our 14th-best game of the 2017 regular season.

San Augustine and Alto go about their business in different ways, but they get the job done. Neither team has missed the postseason the past six years.

This year, both are gunning for the district championship with numbers to back up the hype.

Both squads bring back 16 starters, including the most productive offensive stars from 2016. Alto won last season's meeting by a score of 44-39.

Borders, a Stephen F. Austin commit, paced the aerial side of San Augustine's explosive offense with 1,396 yards and 16 touchdowns as a junior. Quarterback Gavin Murr surpassed 3,000 passing yards with his final throw of the year. All the while, K.J. Davis hit the 1,800-yard rushing mark.

But with Thacker leading Alto, it's a matter of how far that trio will get in the 48-minute game. He's a punishing runner out of the quarterback spot and will be the Yellowjackets' best hope of keeping the ball out of San Augustine's hands.

This will be a battle of wills.

The Yellowjackets' defense will be pushed to their outer limits containing all of the Wolves' weapons. San Augustine's defenders, meanwhile, will have to toughen up and take the hits Thacker throws.

You want contact? This game has it.

You want strategy? These teams will showcase it.
