Following a dominating run through the non-district portion of their schedule, eighth-ranked Malakoff met a challenge in its District 11-3A Division I opener in the form of unbeaten Palestine Westwood last Friday night.

And senior running back Marcus Dowell helped deliver a victory to help the Tigers remain undefeated on the season.

Dowell ran for 217 yards and five touchdowns on just 15 carries in leading Malakoff to a 47-28 defeat of Westwood. For his efforts, Dowell is the ETSN.fm/Dairy Queen Offensive Player of the Week.

He follows Marshall quarterback Justin Hart, who won the honor last week.

Dowell has helped Malakoff win its first six games by an average margin of 35.5 points. The Tigers are averaging 49.2 points per game, while allowing just 13.7.

Malakoff (6-0, 1-0) puts its unbeaten record on the line this Friday night at Elkhart (3-2, 1-0.
