Defending District 10-A Division I champion San Augustine may have gotten off to a slow start, but the Wolves appear to have rounded into form and at just the right time.

A big reason why has been the play of junior quarterback JaMikel Roberts, who had a monster performance in his team's 69-49 win over Shelbyville last Friday night, a victory that improved the Wolves to 2-0 in district play.

Roberts accounted for 478 yards and eight touchdowns, making him the ETSN.fm/Dairy Queen Offensive Player of the Week. He completed 13 of 24 passes for 355 yards and six touchdowns, while rushing for 123 yards and two touchdowns on 13 attempts.

Receivers Dez Randle and Jarvis Smith were the primary benefactors of Roberts' passing performance, each hauling in three touchdowns receptions. Randle caught six passes for 199 yards, while Smith made four receptions for 123 yards.

Roberts' six touchdown passes covered 41, 42, 38, 32, 27 and 37 yards. His two scoring runs came from 21 and 2 yards out as San Augustine rolled up 596 yards of total offense.

San Augustine (3-4, 2-0), despite losing four of its first five games, remains a factor in the 10-A D-I championship race. The Wolves are at fellow league unbeaten West Sabine (6-0, 2-0) on Friday night.
