The Carthage Bulldogs showed everyone why they are the odds-on favorite to repeat as Class 4A Division I state champions in their playoff win last Friday night.

And they did it in one half.

The headliner of Carthage's incredible 64-point first half was junior quarterback Gunner Capps, who put forth his best performance of the season.

Capps completed 13 of 15 passes for 387 yards with seven touchdowns -- all before halftime -- in the No. 1 Bulldogs' 64-36 rout of Silsbee in their Region II semifinal in Lufkin.

For his efforts, Capps is the ETSN.fm/Dairy Queen Offensive Player of the Week. He follows last week's winner, Henderson running back Lynn Freeney.

Capps threw touchdowns of 30, 15, and 72 yards to Dee Bowens, a pair of 33-yard scores to Dewaylon Ingram, a 59-yarder to running back Keaontay Ingram, and a touchdown from 57 yards to Mekhi Colbert just before halftime.

For the season, the Bulldogs quarterback has thrown for 3,170 yards with 42 touchdowns and six interceptions.

Capps and his Carthage (13-0) teammates face district rival Henderson (11-2) for the Region III title Friday night. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. from Stephen F. Austin's Homer Bryce Stadium in Nacogdoches.
