LONGVIEW -- Volleyball matches don't get much closer than Beckville's Class A Region III quarterfinal playoff against Avery.

Beckville fell behind early, responded to take advantage, then broke a match tie with a thrilling Game 5 win to beat Avery -- 15-25, 25-22, 25-18, 22-25, 16-14 -- and clinch a second consecutive berth in the Region III tournament.

Beckville (30-4) faces Iola at 2 p.m. Friday in the 1A Region III tournament at Longview's Lobo Coliseum.

Ivy Rieke led the Ladycats with 15 kills, one block, and 19 digs, while Kassidy Alexander had 38 assists and 27 digs. Taylor Lindsay added 14 kills, one ace, and 19 digs. Carson Blair contributed nine kills, three aces, and 25 digs, while Kimber Wesner had 20 digs.

Beckville's Carley Lawhorn had five kills and four digs. Stacie Brevard recorded 16 digs, while Cassie Elizondo had three kills, one block, and four digs. Shelby Allen had two aces and Natalie Morris added four digs.

Beckville lost to Jewett Leon in last year's regional semifinals. If the Ladycats beat Iola, they face the winner of Jewett Leon vs. Big Sandy, which play 4 p.m. Friday. The regional championship match is Saturday at Longview's Lobo Coliseum.

Big Sandy beat Miller Grove in four games Tuesday night to advance to the regional tournament.

Quitman Sweeps Paris Chisum

HUGHES SPRINGS -- Allison McKinley and Beth Noble led Quitman to a 25-20, 25-22, 25-18 sweep of Paris Chisum on Tuesday in a Class 2A Region II quarterfinal at Hughes Springs High School.

McKinley had 21 kills, two aces, and 15 digs, while Noble added 36 assists and 11 digs.

Quitman's Shea Raley recorded eight kills and six blocks. Teammate Kelsey Daniel had six kills and 15 digs.

Quitman faces Brock at 7:30 p.m. Friday at Rockwall High School in a 2A Region II semifinal following the 6 p.m. matchup of Queen City vs. Callisburg. Queen City beat Alba-Golden 25-11, 25-27, 25-15, 25-18 on Tuesday to reach the regional tournament.
