Kase Yates spent plenty of time in the backfield Friday.

It's normal for the Joaquin running back to do so. He has rushed for 888 yards this season. However, this past week, Yates was frequently in the backfield when his team didn't have to ball. He recorded 17 tackles, four for a loss, and broke up two passes in the Rams' 35-20 victory against Alto.

For his efforts, he is the ETSN.fm + Dairy Queen Defensive Player of the Week. He follows Palestine's Josh Williams, who took the award in Week 6.

The win came in Joaquin's District 11-2A Division I opener, and moved the Rams to 5-1 overall. They look ahead to a matchup at 7:30 p.m. Friday at Shelbyville.
