The last three Carthage starting quarterbacks won state championships, the previous two combining to win three of the school's four titles over the past six seasons.

Current Bulldogs starter Jarod Blissett has yet to lead his team to the state's ultimate prize, but last Friday night, he put his name alongside the school's last two quarterbacks in the record books.

Blissett tied a school record with six touchdown passes in Carthage's 55-14 rout of Brownsboro, earning him ETSN.fm/Dairy Queen Offensive Player of the Week honors. He follows Sulphur Springs' Larry Pryor, last week's recipient.

Blissett finished the night 18 of 31 passing for 304 yards, leading Carthage (3-5, 2-1 in District 9-4A Division I) to its second consecutive district win.

Anthony Morgan, who won back-to-back state championships, tossed six touchdown passes in Carthage's 2010 state title game victory over Coldspring-Oakhurst.

The school's all-time leader in most passing categories -- Blake Bogenschutz -- accomplished the feat twice. The current UTSA freshman quarterback fired six scoring tosses in a 2012 regular-season game vs. Rusk, and did it again in last season's state semifinal victory over La Grange.

For the season, Blissett has thrown for 1,736 yards with 14 touchdowns and three interceptions.

Carthage hosts Palestine (0-7, 0-3) this Friday night before closing the regular season Nov. 7 at Chapel Hill (5-3, 3-0).
