The beauty of having a handful of capable running backs sharing the load is that on any given night, one of them can shine. That player was Junebug Johnson last Friday night.

Johnson carried the ball only six times but ran for 217 yards and four touchdowns, while also catching a 60-yard touchdown in the Wildcats' 52-32 area-round playoff defeat of Leonard.

And for his efforts, Johnson is the ETSN.fm/Dairy Queen Offensive Player of the Week. He follows in the footsteps of Mineola quarterback Jeremiah Crawford, who earned the honor a week ago.

Junebug Johnson is one of four returning 1,000-yard rushers from last season's state semifinalist team, along with Kevin Johnson, Dillon Benton and Trace Carter. All four, along with Chan Amie, are rushing Waskom toward another long postseason run this year.

In the win last week, Junebug Johnson was virtually unstoppable, averaging an astounding 39.6 yards per touch. He scored on runs of 16, 62, 57 and 49 yards.

Waskom (10-1) faces Howe this Friday night at 7:30 p.m. from TMF Rose Stadium in Tyler in a Class 3A Division II Region II semifinal.
